He slides on some slippers to protect his feet from the cold castle floor before sliding them back off as he sits down on his bed. Yn takes off his robes with shaky hands and quickly replaces them with some pyjama pants and a loose t-shirt that should probably be thrown away due to its collection of stains and holes that it’s acquired over the years. He didn’t notice the boy already waiting for him on his bed but when he did he only jumped a little and didn’t say anything as this was a normal occurrence. A small rock that was smooth from the erosion of water, a little coin that no longer has any economic capital, a tiny poster with a deer surrounded by shrubbery that has a foreign language at the bottom, it’s possible that Draco could just ask Y/n but if he doesn’t remember he might get frustrated with his brain as things have been slipping out lately.įinally, Y/n swings open his door and drops his bag on the floor as soon as he walks in as if to rid himself of his stressful assignments as soon as possible. He didn’t know the meaning of every item but he knew they had some meaning. They remotely dissected every item on every dresser in Y/n’s maximalism trinket world. As Draco lay in Y/n’s bed, he looked first at the ceiling, and then his eyes started to wander the room. Draco didn’t have any homework and Y/n had a study hall today so when they meet up after their last class they can completely focus on each other.ĭraco waited for Y/n in his room since Draco’s last class was charms and Y/n had just had potions in the dungeons. Draco always offered to help him study but Y/n turned him down, not wanting to be a burden.

It didn’t even matter if Y/n parents looked at them because he was always so self-critical.

The term was ending soon which meant tests and report cards. Y/n had been very stressed and down lately and kind of distant, which hurt, but Draco knew it wasn’t his fault.

He never knew what to say or how to calm people down, except for when it came to Y/n. In 2019, I also co-chaired the 3rd Midwest Machine Learning Symposium ( MMLS).Draco was good at many things, potions, piano, etc. In 20, I was the program co-chair for MLSys. In 2018, I co-founded the conference on Machine Learning & Systems (MLSys), a new conference that targets research at the intersection of systems and machine learning. (2009) and ECE Diploma (2007) from the Technical University of Crete (TUC), located in the beautiful city of Chania. Before UT, I spent 3.5 years as a grad student at USC.īefore all that, I received my M.Sc. in 2014 from UT Austin, where I was fortunate to be advised byĪlex Dimakis.

I am particularly interested in the theory and practice of large-scale machine learning and the challenges that arise once we aim to build solutions that come with robustness and scalability guarantees.īefore coming to Madison, I spent two wonderful years as a postdoc at UC Berkeley, where I was a member of the AMPLab and BLISS, and had the pleasure to collaborate with My research lies in the intersection of machine learning, coding theory, and distributed optimization. I am the Jay & Cynthia Ihlenfeld Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering (and CS by courtesy) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a faculty fellow at the Grainger Institute, and a faculty affiliate with the Optimization group at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
